Thanks to the COVID-19 virus, many animal welfare groups in California's Mendocino County have had to delay or cancel spaying and neutering.
Now, with $208,000 in grants from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County, the groups can get by, the Press Democrat reports.
"These grants will help mitigate some of the difficulties faced by local organizations and allow them to increase capacity to help meet need," the foundation said in a statement.
The mostly volunteer-run groups include shelters, private veterinary clinics, nonprofit organizations, and state wildlife offices.
"Each of these organizations plays a vital role in the health, safety, and protection of domestic animals and wildlife," the foundation said.
"However, the largely volunteer run nonprofit organizations face unique financial and programmatic ripple effects from the pandemic."
