International Rivers Grant

Organization - International Rivers
Grant Amount - $300,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - This general purpose grant to International Rivers will support its efforts to protect rivers, assist communities impacted by large dam projects, and encourage the development of alternative technologies for meeting community water and energy needs. To achieve these goals, the grantee will undertake research, education, and advocacy with a global network of local communities, nongovernmental organizations, and other partners. The objectives for the grant period will be to raise awareness of the need to shift investments from large-scale river infrastructure projects to small-scale, sustainable, community-based solutions; strengthen the capacity of local organizations to defend their rivers and participate in discussions on water and energy infrastructure; and encourage sustainable solutions for meeting water, energy, and flood management needs. The grantee will also continue to work to persuade Chinese banks to adopt international, social, and environmental standards and to improve the environmental sustainability policies of other institutions financing large-scale dam projects.
