Grant Purpose - The overall project goal of the Center for Civic Cooperation is to promote vibrant local democracy by increasing people's participation in local decisionmaking in two districts of western Bosnia-Herzegovina. Activities during the next two years will foster communication between citizens and local officials, raise awareness about issues of local concern, and strengthen local town councils as mechanisms for active public participation in decisionmaking processes. During the past two years, the grantee has produced radio programs where local representatives are on hand to discuss issues with journalists and answer questions from people who call the program, organized public debates on topics raised on the radio programs, and strengthened 20 local town councils in ten municipalities. The grantee is based in Livno, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and has been working on local democracy development since 1996.
