Hong Kong wants to be more than a tax haven.
It wants to be a global center for philanthropy.
To that end, the government has launched iLink, a database that will connect family offices and asset owners with charitable causes in Hong Kong and around the world, the South China Morning Post reports.
The database, which will be run by the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy, will provide information on vetted causes in areas including public health, life sciences, poverty alleviation, education, and community.
It will also include projects using new technologies, such as AI, to try and tackle these issues in Hong Kong, mainland China, and internationally.
"Hong Kong has a longstanding tradition of philanthropy, and we strive to become a global center for philanthropy," Financial Secretary Paul Chan says.
"iLink will allow family offices and asset owners to make more informed decisions on charity projects so that their contributions can create maximum impact."
