Grant Purpose - This grant will support the Center on Education Policy in adopting a research-based, factual approach to determine whether the right national policies for education are in place and what future national policies should look like. This project will include: 1) understanding effective approaches for increasing student learning; 2) assessing the respective roles in education of the federal, state, and local governments; 3) recognizing differences among the states; 4) balancing accountability with assistance, and 5) acknowledging factors outside the schools that have powerful effects on what happens within schools. The Center on Education Policy will assemble an advisory panel of respected education experts to determine specific details and commission 10-15 papers from nationally known experts for dissemination.
