Harvard University Grant

Organization - Harvard University
Grant Amount - $100,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - Community organizing has emerged as a powerful force for the reform of public education in low-income communities. Over the past two decades, hundreds of organizing groups have worked to address the improvement of local schools, making significant impacts on improving policy and practice at the school, district, and state levels. While these accomplishments show the potential of the field, only recently are researchers developing a detailed understanding of the mechanisms through which education organizing accomplishes its goals. This research, a project of Harvard University, will build on earlier research, including the Mott-funded eight-site study of community-driven reform, with a focus on examining the processes critical to success or failure in education organizing.
