Grant Purpose - Through this grant the Amazon Conservation Team will support the Surinamese Government in its efforts to implement land rights and demarcate indigenous lands in Suriname, thus establishing the enabling conditions for Protected Area and Indigenous Territory creation over 4.49 million hectares. It will implement components of effective management for 9 million hectares in Suriname and Brazil by training indigenous and non-indigenous park guards and by developing management and sustainable finance plans for the 4.2 million ha Tumucumaque Indigenous Reserve. By establishing a permanent park guard training center in Amapá it will ensure the durability of PA staff training in the region.
